So, I am in vacation, slaving myself to renovate my house ... Tomorrow, I am going to remove a non barring wall. I did replace all the windows in the house, to the code ... Few thousand dollars well invested ...
I am adding 2 velux with home automation, those can open controlled by the air conditioning, to flush the hot air from the top of the room, by convection , this is expected to save 20% on the heat pump load ... Long term investment is awesome on those babies!

Good Luck with your home improvements, its not easy but it saves a lot of energy. We live where we get nice ocean breezes and that in combination with an insulated roof and good windows means our house is cool even on some of the hottest days.
